New Patek Releases for 2023

New Patek Releases for 2023

November 2023 was the month of the diamond in Genevan watch manufacturer, Patek Philippe’s house. The latest Patek Philippe women’s (and unisex) timepieces are snowed under with diamonds and other precious gemstones, although the sporty design of the collections remains evident.

The new sparkly era of the Aquanaut and the Nautilus is here. And it’s arrived just in time for Christmas.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut

First launched in 1997, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut collection is described by the brand as “modern, sporty and chic”. In November 2023, the brand created two new Patek Philippe women’s watches that “embrace the modern, casual chic style of the Aquanaut collection”. But, if you ask us, there’s nothing casual about this pair.

Patek fans get a choice of two Haute Joaillerie versions, crafted in rose gold and encrusted with a rainbow of sapphires and diamonds. One of the greatest achievements here is the ability to cram in so many diamonds while still making the timepiece look elegant –warranting a ‘more is more’ approach. The rainbow shades bring fun to this collection, although aren’t ground-breaking. We’ve seen the rainbow trend embraced in the Rolex Daytona Rainbow, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold Double Balance Wheel Openworked, and the Royal Oak Music Edition.

The new collection is something of a union between the Aquanaut Luce and the minute repeater complication. It has a self-winding movement that chimes on demand, using two classic gongs.

It might be called Aquanaut, but these Patek Philippe watches aren’t waterproof. That shouldn’t matter too much, though – would anyone be tempted to take a dip with this much bling on their wrist? Overall, these are stunning and eye-catching watches. Just don’t expect to wear one without a mixed bag of comments from friends and strangers.

Patek Philippe Nautilus

This year’s Patek releases include three new Nautilus Haute Joaillerie line models. Continuing the collection’s “sporting elegance” theme, the latest timepieces reject what you know about the use of diamonds. They showcase a unique “snow” setting, for an unapologetic cluster of diamonds with blue sapphires (7118/1451G), rubies (7118/1452G) or emeralds (7118/1453G).

More new releases for November 2023 include two Patek Phillipe women’s watches for the Nautilus line in rose gold and purple combinations. The manufacturer has stayed true to its wave pattern dial typical of this collection, but this time it’s a rich, royal purple hue.

At 32mm, the case is smaller than many people would like, and there have been (as expected) complaints about the use of quartz. However, occasionally, Patek uses quartz to comply with their strict quality standards. It might also be an effort to keep the price tag in check. A little.

Special Edition: A Tribute to Philippe Stern

An honourary mention of this year’s Patek Philippe watches goes to the limited edition watch that celebrates Philippe Stern’s 85th birthday. The Stern family has owned Patek Philippe since 1932, and Philippe Stern took the company president seat from 1993 until 2009. His son, Thierry, created this watch to honour both Philippe’s birthday and his contribution to horology.

The new Minute Repeater Alarm Ref. 1938P features a white and grey portrait of Philippe Stern on the dial, and the inscription A mon père, 85 ans de passion horlogère (To my father, 85 years of watchmaking passion) on the case.

The watch combines a minute repeater and an alarm that chimes on the same two gongs. This presented a huge technical challenge that had to be overcome by adding 227 new components and filing four new patents.

  • Movement: Self-winding
  • Calibre: R AL 27 PS
  • Dial: Grand Feu black enamel with a portrait of Philippe Stern
  • Hour markers: Gold
  • Case: Platinum, sapphire crystal case back

Strap: Alligator leather
